Another Blow to the Trans Community – When Justice Fails Us

Yesterday delivered yet another devastating blow to the Transgender community—this time from the U.S. Supreme Court, which allowed the Tennessee ban on gender-affirming care for Trans youth to stand.
Let that sink in.
The highest court in the United States has ruled that it is permissible to discriminate against transgender minors when it comes to accessing medically necessary care. This decision echoes a similarly disturbing one in the U.K., where their own Supreme Court recently ruled that the word “woman” in the Equality Act refers only to sex assigned at birth—effectively excluding trans women from protections under the law.
That’s two of the so-called most “developed” nations on Earth telling Trans people we don’t matter. That our rights are conditional. That our existence is negotiable.
And in both cases, let’s be clear—no expert witnesses were called. No Trans people were consulted. No medical or psychological professionals who actually treat gender dysphoria were involved. Instead, these courts leaned on debunked science, misinformation, and personal ideologies to justify their decisions.
Judges are meant to interpret the law, not rewrite reality to suit their political or religious agendas. And yet here we are.
In the U.S., there's a well-established legal principle that any law based on sex classifications must undergo heightened scrutiny. But apparently that principle no longer applies when it comes to Trans people. Now, if a law explicitly targets Trans youth, it gets a free pass. Tennessee can now deny medical care to Trans minors—care that is endorsed by every major medical association—while still allowing the same treatments for cisgender minors. That is blatant, undeniable discrimination.
And let's not pretend this isn’t ideologically motivated. This is about control. This is about forcing Trans people back into the closet, forcing them to deny their gender, forcing families to choose between their home and their child’s well-being. It is cruelty disguised as concern. And it’s not just dangerous—it’s disgusting.
The U.K. is no better. Their recent Supreme Court ruling redefines “woman” to mean assigned female at birth, effectively excluding trans women from legal protections. That decision—again, rooted in ideology—now opens the door for Trans women to be banned from single-sex spaces, endangering their safety and further isolating them from public life.
Let’s be absolutely clear: these rulings are not about protecting women or children. They are about weaponizing ignorance and moral panic to strip away rights. They are about excluding and dehumanizing Trans people. And our governments are letting it happen.
We are being systematically attacked. Not just socially or politically—but now legally. And it’s being done using bad science, hate speech, and the loudest voices in the room, while those actually impacted—Trans people, families, medical professionals—are ignored.
Let me remind lawmakers of something: You were elected to represent all your constituents. Not just the ones who shout the loudest. Not just the ones who look or live like you. If the law as it stands allows for discrimination, then your job is clear—make new laws that don’t. Laws that protect everyone. Laws that recognize that equality is not a zero-sum game.
Giving rights to Trans people does not take anything away from anyone else.
This is not just political failure. This is moral failure.
I’m tired. Tired of waking up wondering what new attacks are coming next. Tired of seeing rights stripped away by people who will never know what it feels like to live in our skin. Tired of having to fight so hard just to exist.
But I’m not giving up. And neither should you.
Because when the courts fail us, and the lawmakers abandon us, we have to turn to each other. We have to raise our voices louder than the hate. We have to demand better.
And we will.
Because we are not going anywhere.
